Basic information about the plant


Burnet Saxifrage (Pimpinella saxifrage) is a perennial plant that grows on meadows, pastures, terrains with dry soil, around forests, and roads.

It is believed that Burnet saxifrage originates in western Asia and from the soil of British islands, from where it spreads over the rest of parts of Europe.


The characteristic of this plant is possesion of a very aromatic and healing root


The plant has a strong stable stem that is filled with milk juice. The leaves are long, green and they are reminded of the leaves of parsley

The flowers are white to pink and collected in a blossom. After flowering, the plant leaves the fruit.

What is the medicinal part of the plant?


The medicinal part of the herb is a root, which is branched and very aromatic. The scent of the Burnet saxifrage root is reminiscent of the clove.

Root extraction, drying and storage


The root is removed in the early spring or during autumn. When the root is cleansed from the ground, it cut at half a length and with the help of needle and threads it been prepared for drying. Leave root to dry at a closed place, away from the sun or in the oven at temperatures below 50 degrees Celsius.

• Tea from Burnet Saxifrage


Take one teaspoon of scrubbed dried root and pour with 250 ml of water. Cover the container and let it stand for 10 minutes. Then strain and drink 2-3 times a day for one small cup.

In consuming tea it should be cautious, because excessive amounts can damage the kidneys. Gurgle unsweetened tea is especially effective in angina (throat) and bronchitis.


Combining Burnet Saxifrage with other herbs


Burnet Saxifrage is most often combined with sage, birch,  centaury, for the treatment of respiratory problems.

Note: Burnet Saxifrage is not used in pregnant and nursing women.
