What are polycystic ovaries and how to treat them in a natural way?

What are polycystic ovaries?

Polycystic ovaries are pathological disorder engendered by the hormonal imbalance between estrogen and progesterone in women of reproductive age.

The occurrence of ovarian cysts may occur at a younger age, in girls during puberty, but it can also occur in women who are having children.

The numbers of cysts, symptoms that cause, accompanying phenomena that create ovarian cysts, are individual, and vary from woman to woman.

How ovarian cysts are formed?

Hormones in our body are responsible for many processes, usually the metabolic character, in the form of energy production and cell growth.

Since the hormone are interconnected and form one entity in the metabolic part, every aspect of reduced secretion or inactivity of any hormone can lead to balance disorders in hormone structure and expression of certain pathological conditions.

When it comes to female sex hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, which participate in the processes of ovulation, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, it should be noted that only the correct balance of these hormones building normally reproductive health of women

In case of imbalance between these two hormones (estrogen, progesterone less or vice versa), there is compensation in the ovaries which are producing more androgenic hormone or male sex hormones (testosterone, androsterone).

Due to the imbalance of sex hormones and increased concentrations of androgens, it comes to the formation of cysts on the ovaries – benign formations with the form of vesicles filled with serous fluid.

Cysts can be very small and numerous, although it may appear, mono cyst on the ovary - an independent cyst that is large and filled with serous fluid, even with blood, which is why it stands as a hemorrhagic cyst.

Due to the imbalance of sex hormones and increased concentrations of androgens, it comes to the formation of cysts on the ovaries – benign formations with the form of vesicles filled with serous fluid.

In women with polycystic ovarian, cycle is not performed properly.

From the hypothalamus releases gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in a higher incidence than normal, which leads to an elevated LH and reduced FSH levels and as results brings the elevated levels of androgen (“male") hormones.

This negatively affects on the process of maturation of the follicles, which does not maturate and "shoot" but already exceed in the cysts form. In addition, there is a continuous increase of the estrogens, estrone in particular.

Estrone is usually associated with menopause and is relatively low in reproductive-age women. Above-average levels of androgens and estrogen lead to reduced levels of progesterone.

Some research suggests that this syndrome is hereditary, so there is the higher ability to get it if some of your relatives suffer from polycystic ovaries.

What are the symptoms of polycystic ovary?

Due to the presence of male sex hormones in women with PCOS appear the following symptoms:

- Enhanced hair growth and strong and firm hair
- The appearance of acne on the face, back, decolletage
- Thin hair, which is dry and brittle
- Increased appetite and weight gain
- The absence or irregular menstrual cycle
- Abundant menstrual bleeding
- Male Breast
- Deeper (male) voice
- Infertility, difficulty conception
- Depression or nervosa, mood swings

Although it is not a symptom of the disease, many women with PCOS have other concurrent health problems such as diabetes, hypertension and high levels of cholesterol in the bloodstream.

Is there a natural way to treat ovarian cysts?

The question that arises after the whole story is - whether PCOS can treat and how?

The answer is unfortunately negative, in the sense that ovarian cysts can not be permanently eliminated and that their further occurrence can prevent.

The goal of treating ovarian cysts is to prevent complications and controlling symptoms that occur as a result of this condition. Access to treatment is individual, and only a doctor can determine the course of treatment in therapy of polycystic ovaries.

Of the natural ways that greatly can control polycystic ovaries they are primarily focused on:

- Changes in diet
- Physical activity
- Turning herbs in therapy

 Changes in diet

Women who have problems with ovarian cysts usually have the disturbances of other hormones (hormone of thyroid gland, adrenal gland, insulin) which lead to metabolic dysfunction and problems with overweight. It is not a rule that all women with polycystic ovaries have to be obese; this syndrome also occur lean people, where there is also a relative imbalance of sex hormones and hormone precursors.

How does nutrition affect polycystic ovaries?

There is no ideal nutritional formula or a diet to be used for the treatment of polycystic ovaries.

The generally accepted rule is entering the more complex carbohydrates, as much vegetable fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables and integral cereals. In the preparations of dishes, it is recommended to use healthy fats, such as omega fatty acids from fish oil, then instead of refined oils use healthy organic oils - olive, sesame, coconut oil. Replace full-fat cheese with low-fat cheese, yogurt, and kefir. In the diet include snack in the form of fresh fruits, nuts, and seeds.

On the other hand, avoid refined sugars and oils, sweets, fried foods, white bread, cookies, mayonnaise, margarine and everything that is not good for our overall health.

The main goal of this diet or introducing changes in the daily diet is to bring hormones into desirable balance, because only such metabolic functions in our body will be exploited in order to preserve the general health. By changing the diet regime, and ejection of unnecessary meals and foods that can burden the body, we can influence the regulation of body weight, and therefore control the menstrual cycle.

Studies have shown that Peruvian maca has a strong positive effect on ovulation and prevent ovarian cysts.

 Physical Activity

Always be active, especially when you have problems with ovulation and conception. Increase your daily physical activities to keep body weight under control and impact on the proper balance between food intake and metabolic energy. Even a small weight loss can help in regulating levels of hormones and regulation of the menstrual cycle.

 Leave a cigarette

Maybe it acting like a crazy thing and you are probably asked what the general connection between polycystic ovary and smoking? Yes, studies have shown that a large number of women smokers have a high risk of polycystic ovaries compared to women who do not smoke cigarettes. For these women is established higher level of androgenic hormone responsible for the formation of cysts on the ovaries. Therefore, in order to preserve reproductive health, leave cigarettes and think about the future in which you should become pregnant.
