What you should know when purchasing and applying essential oils?

Tips when buying essential oils


• Pay attention to packaging


Original essential oils should be in dark colored glass containers, because in this way, there is no contact between essential substances and the external light. In this manner the unwanted chemical reactions are impossible.

If you notice, till purchase, that the essential oils are in plastic bottles or in transparent glass bottles, be sure to avoid them because they are inadequately packed.

Avoid buying essential oils that are packaged in glass bottles with a rubber dropper on the top, because highly concentrated oil can dissolve the rubber and the whole content in bottle could be polluted.

• Buy essential oils to the proven places


Essential oils always buy from trusted manufacturers and distributors who possess licenses and certificates of origin and originality of essential oils

Prices of original essential oils are still high, due to the manner of production, so tempting low prices of essential oils are certainly evidence of diluted essential oil in some base oil.

• Read Declaration


Before you buy essential oil, make sure to read the declaration, which should contain some of basic information on essential oil - Latin name of the genus and species of the plant, part of the plant from which the essential oil obtained, the method of obtaining essential oil, chemical composition, country of origin of essential oil,  organic origin. 

On the bottle should be indicated batch number and expiration date of essential oils.

Original essential oils as a rule should be in glass containers with dark glass, because in this way prevents contact of essential substances with the light and prevents unwanted chemical reactions.


Advices in applying essential oils


• The main characteristics of essential oils


Essential oils are different from other oils for the fact that on paper do not leave a greasy track, they are rapidly evaporate and they are lighter in consistency than water. 

They are mostly colourless, but some may be pale yellow, golden yellow, green, blue, brown, dark red. They are very flammable, with specific odor, soluble in alcohol and poorly soluble in water.


• Proper dosage of essential oils


Never consider essential oils as harmless substances! Depending on the type of Essential oil, quantities are measured in drops, and in most cases, it use one or two drops. Always hold the lesser amount than uncontrolled increases.


• Proper application of essential oils


Essential oils are never applied to the skin undiluted. Exceptions are lavender essential oil and tea tree oil on the  smaller, local areas of skin (acne, warts). 

In other cases, the essential oils are always diluted with some of the base oil (almond, olive, sunflower and other unrefined oils)


• Before applying, do the allergy test


Before applying essential oil, especially in the first application to the skin, do the allergy test

Apply a drop of diluted essential oil on a small skin area (the inner side of the forearm) and allowed to stand. 

If the skin shows symptoms of itching, redness, swelling, immediately suspends further use and application of essential oils on the skin.


• Keeping essential oils


Essential oils should be stored in a dark, cool place, away from heat sources because they are volatile by the chemical nature. 

Citrus oils are phototoxic, and may not be used for at least 12 hours before exposure to the sun.


• The critical group for the application of essential oils


A special account in the application of essential oils should be paid to pregnant women, children, the elderly with asthma and epilepsy.


• How long essential oils can be used in treatment ?


The application of essential oils may not last longer than 3 months, because long-term use will not be a therapeutic, it can only bring problems and hypersensitivity.


• Essential oils are especially for the skin


The external use of essential oils means applying EO to the skin, not the mucous membranes and eyes.
